How This Coffee Store Uses Circular Accents to Elevate Its Interior Design

This coffee shop named SOL has broken free from the vicious circle of homogenization with a consistent "circular element" design language, bringing the sense of luxury, comfort and memorable points of the space to a perfect level. From the macro bar counter and ceiling to the micro walls, furniture and lighting fixtures, every part is echoed with circular/arc-shaped elements, which not only breaks the cold and hard feeling of the industrial style space, but also creates a soft, comfortable and high-end spatial atmosphere.

Arc-shaped and circular bar counters

Unlike the conventional coffee shops that create a tough look with linear display cabinets, the bar counter background wall of this store directly uses three continuous arched (arc) door openings as the framework of the display area. The natural arc-shaped lines are like gently elongated semi-circles, instantly weakening the industrial cold and hard feel of the entire space, adding a touch of gentle breathing to the originally spacious area. Inside the arched door opening in the middle, the illuminated "SOL" brand logo stands out strikingly in the warm light, not only enhancing brand memory but also making this arc-shaped design the visual anchor point of the entire space. As soon as customers enter, they will naturally be drawn to the bar counter area.

design idea

  • Circular wooden ceiling

The designer used multiple circular wooden ceilings of different sizes, which were distributed in a staggered manner above the bar counter. Each circular ceiling features distinctive details - some have gearly shaped white decorative edges, while others have a three-dimensional design with a pleated feel. Paired with the small circular pendant lamps hanging down below, this not only enriches the layers at the top but also perfectly echoes the design language of the entire space with circular elements. More practically, these circular ceilings also ingeniously cover the pipes on the top surface, optimizing the acoustic effect of the space and preventing the bar counter area from appearing empty and noisy due to the excessively high ceiling height.

The front of the bar counter is in a calm navy blue color, with a slight arc transition at the edge, completely bidding farewell to the stiffness of the right angles. The high stools in front of the bar counter also have a soft arc-shaped backrest, which perfectly echoes the curved shape of the bar counter. Even the floor of the bar counter is a terrazzo area with arc-shaped edges, outlined with golden lines to create a smooth contour. From the floor to the wall and then to the top, it forms a complete circular element closed loop. In the display area of the bar counter, in addition to the regular display of wine and coffee utensils, there are also hanging round green plant racks. The hanging green plants soften the hard feeling of the space, while the round flowerpots further strengthen the design theme, making the entire bar counter area both functional and full of atmosphere.

Linear annular light strip

In the entrance area, the designer used black linear lights to create multiple continuous circular light strips. The warm white light flows along the circular lines, clearly dividing different functional areas such as the entrance, rest area, and bar counter, while also neutralizing the coldness and hardness of the industrial-style ceiling (exposed pipes, black ceiling) with the circular flow.

The most wonderful part is that inside the largest circular light strip, the designer has created a circular green plant installation. The hanging green plants hang down from the middle of the circular light, perfectly combining the two elements of "circle" and "nature". This has transformed the originally cold industrial ceiling into a vibrant visual focus, allowing customers to feel the breath of nature as soon as they look up.

These circular light strips not only serve as decoration but also guide the flow of people. By following the direction of the circular light strips, customers can naturally complete the flow from the entrance to the rest area and then to the bar counter without the need for additional signboards. The design guides the flow of people.

Wooden circular chandelier

In addition to the linear circular lights, the space is also dotted with a large number of wooden circular chandeliers of various shapes. In the rest area and booth area, there are some dynamic designs with three interwoven rings, and some simple designs with two rings superimposed. The warm texture of the original wood combined with the warm light strips not only echoes the theme of the space with circular elements but also creates a comfortable and relaxing rest atmosphere with soft diffused light.

These circular chandeliers are distributed in different functional areas in a staggered manner. They not only fill the void caused by the excessively high ceiling height but also make the entire top design full of layers, preventing it from appearing monotonous. Even in a core area like the bar counter, the circular wooden ceiling on the top plays a role in "defining the space", separating the bar counter area from the entire large space, strengthening the core position of the bar counter, and at the same time allowing customers to feel a unique atmosphere when consuming at the bar counter.

Leisure Area furniture

  • Arc-shaped booth

A continuous arc-shaped sofa is created with a wooden frame, paired with a round marble table. This not only enhances the privacy of the seats but also echoes the theme of the space with its arc-shaped design. The backrest of the booth has been treated with a gentle arc, making it more comfortable for customers to sit on and completely eliminating the discomfort of hard right angles. At the same time, it also makes the lines of the space more gentle.

  • Chairs and high chairs

All the chairs, whether the high chairs by the window or the lounge chairs in the rest area, have arc-shaped backrests. The wooden frames are paired with soft packages in dark blue or off-white, which are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. At the same time, the arc-shaped backrests perfectly echo the circular elements of the space. The tables all feature a round marble tabletop. The white marble paired with golden table legs not only exudes a sense of sophistication but also harmonizes with the circular elements, creating a more gentle atmosphere in the entire rest area.

  • Floor design

All the terrazzo areas are edged with curved edges, complemented by golden lines, outlining a smooth contour from the ground. This allows the circular elements of the space to extend from the top and walls to the ground, forming a 360-degree design loop. Even the crushed stones in the terrazzo are mostly in round shapes, which microscopically echo the circular elements and ensure that the design logic of the entire space runs through the entire process.

Circular wall decoration

"Gear-shaped" circular wall lamp

The most recognizable feature is undoubtedly the "gear-shaped" circular wall lamp against the window wall. Three consecutive circular wall lamps, with white circular frames and wooden ring-shaped cores, emit warm light diffusing from the middle. This not only illuminates the seating area by the window but also enhances the theme of the space with circular elements, turning the originally monotonous wall into a visual focus.

Between the wall lamps, the designer also created three arc-shaped "C-shaped" hanging tables. The navy blue arc-shaped tabletop, combined with the hanging green plants, not only increases the single-person seating area by the window but also echoes the circular elements with the arc-shaped design, transforming the wall from a flat surface into a three-dimensional functional area and perfectly utilizing the lighting advantage by the window.

(Arc) Wall design

The arched (arc) wall designs that can be seen everywhere in the space are ingenious variations of circular elements. The arched partition at the entrance is illuminated with circular light strips along the arc-shaped edges, which not only divides the space but also does not block the light from the floor-to-ceiling Windows, keeping the entire space transparent. The arched background wall in the rest area is layered with wood and dark blue soft packaging, complemented by circular light strips, creating a comfortable and private resting atmosphere. In the niche-style arched design, abstract human-shaped sculptures are placed, and the artistic atmosphere is enhanced by circular light strips, instantly elevating the space's style.
