Nescafé One-Stop Coffee Shop: The Central Bar Counter as the Heart of Your Coffee Space

When you step into a coffee shop, the first thing that catches your eye is often not the exquisite soft furnishings or the bright lighting, but the bar counter that serves multiple functions such as product production, interaction, and brand display. For Nestle's newly created one-stop coffee shop, we have taken the central island-style bar counter as the core hub of the entire space, making it not only the coffee-making operation counter. From space planning to functional design, from visual presentation to operational logic, the entire store is centered around this core, creating a composite coffee space.

coffee store design

Central bar counter

This Nestle one-stop coffee shop adopts a central island-style bar counter design. The overall shape of the bar counter is a regular oval, firmly located in the center of the store, forming a natural spatial core. All functional areas radiate outward from this center, creating a smooth and efficient "central divergent" circulation line. This layout has completely solved the problems of chaotic circulation, crowded customers and fragmented areas in traditional coffee shops. No matter which entrance customers enter the store from, they can clearly see the bar counter at the first moment and quickly find their seats for ordering, picking up food and taking a seat.

counter design

  • White stone

The countertop of the bar counter is mainly made of clean white stone, complemented by warm wooden trim, with dark brown decorative strips embedded in the middle. This not only echoes the natural texture of coffee beans but also forms a natural product display belt. Under the bar counter is a simple matte white cabinet, surrounded by black simple bar stools on the outside. The chair bodies are decorated with white lines, echoing the countertop design.

The overall look is neat and high-end. Large arc-shaped stacked ceiling lamps are hung directly above the bar counter, with soft diffused light evenly covering the entire bar counter area. This not only ensures operational lighting but also makes the bar counter the most visually focused area in the space, allowing the core position to be easily located at a glance.

  • Layout planning

From the perspective of the floor plan, the ordering and takeout area, retail display area, immersive experience area, and leisure seating area are evenly distributed around the bar counter. They are independent of each other yet interconnected. Customers do not need to take a detour or return to complete the entire process from ordering, waiting, experiencing to sitting down and consuming, making the entire consumption process smooth and effortless.

Wraparound functional zoning

  • 1. Convenient ordering and takeout area

The main service ordering area is set up directly opposite the entrance of the coffee shop. The Nestle brand LOGO is prominently displayed on the wall, complemented by a menu board with a red border, clearly presenting all types of beverages. A dedicated takeout channel is planned within the area. For customers in a hurry, a quick pick-up counter is set up, which does not interfere with the dine-in flow. The ordering area is directly connected to the central bar counter, allowing baristas to move flexibly between the two areas, further enhancing operational efficiency.

  • 2. Retail and Immersive Experience Zone

On one side of the coffee bar counter, a dedicated retail area is planned. The shelves display Nescafe gift boxes, home coffee machines, brand clothing, custom accessories and other products. The vertical green plant wall weakens the commercial feel and makes the shopping process more comfortable. A 360°VR experience device is also set up in the area. Customers can immerse themselves in learning about the origin of coffee beans, roasting techniques and brand stories through the device, upgrading simple shopping to a fun experience. At the same time, set up popular swing seats, taking into account both practicality and photo-taking attributes, to attract young customers to stay and share.

  • 3. Diversified leisure seating area

The remaining space around the coffee shop's bar counter has been designed with tiered leisure areas: arc-shaped soft-padded booths are set against the wall, paired with red cushions, echoing the brand's main color tone and creating a semi-private and quiet space. Scattered double tables and long communal tables are set up to meet the needs of small gatherings with friends and small seating for multiple people. An arc-shaped leisure corner is set up near the entrance, and the wall is decorated with Nestle red cups, which has a high visual recognition and is suitable for a short stay. The different seating areas are arranged at varying distances, which not only ensures privacy but also makes the overall space appear spacious and not crowded.

Open style design

Unlike the closed kitchen bar counter, the island-style bar counter adopts a fully open design. The barista completes operations such as grinding, extraction, and latte art within the customer's line of sight throughout the process, turning coffee-making into a visual interactive experience. While waiting, customers can directly experience the details of coffee-making, which not only enhances their trust in product quality but also enables them to communicate easily with baristas, breaking down consumption barriers. Meanwhile, the spacious operation area of the bar counter can accommodate multiple baristas working together at the same time, ensuring efficient meal preparation even during peak hours and reducing customers' waiting time.

display cabinet

Brand display window

The brown decorative strip in the center of the bar counter is designed as a dedicated display area, neatly showcasing Nestle's classic coffee products, custom cups, and peripheral cultural and creative products. When customers place orders and take their seats, they can get up close and personal with the brand's core products, gradually deepening their impression of the brand. This immersive display can naturally guide customers to develop a desire to purchase without the need for deliberate promotion, achieving a seamless connection between beverage consumption and retail conversion.

store design

The bar stools outside the bar counter offer flexible seating options for single people and small gatherings. Office workers working alone, passers-by taking a short break, and friends chatting in groups can all sit down at the bar counter. It neither takes up a large leisure area nor fails to create a relaxed and comfortable social atmosphere. The central position of the bar counter allows customers to have a panoramic view of the entire store, offering a wide field of vision and a comfort level far superior to that of traditional wall-mounted bars.
